Virtual Capitol Extension Lessons
3. Extension Lesson: Civic Impact
PURPOSE: Students study Abraham Lincoln’s monumental sculpture on the west entrance out-side the capitol with the words of the Gettysburg Address, the stone relief of Lincoln signing the Emancipation Proclamation, and the stone relief of the Kansas-Nebraska Act as examples of civic partipation. We honor our heroes with poetry as revealed by a father and daughter commemorating their father’s life and honoring heroes.
